To counter the impact of the new Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, Citroën should soon give a boost to its C3 Rally2 launched five years ago now under the name R5. While it benefited from a first series of developments in 2021 to adapt to the new Rally2 standard, the herringbone machine should receive a new one in 2023.

« The development of this type of car never stops, explains Didier Clément, head of the Citroën Racing customer competition department to WRC.com. We work all the time to improve it down to the smallest details. We've seen this in the past with the Xsara, C4, DS3 and C3 in WRC."

Among the axes chosen by Citroën, the C3 Rally2 will see its engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamics modified. “ We will have an overall improvement, continues Didier Clément. We're working on different things on the engine and we're working on the software part of some things. We will also rework the suspensions, aerodynamics and the behavior of the differentials. When you add up all these little details, it ultimately adds up to a big step forward. »

Initially, Citroën plans to make these improvements little by little during the season, starting in particular with “officially supported” drivers such as Yohan Rossel, leader of the WRC2 championship (tied on points with Oliver Solberg, 28).

« A good car in WRC2 is not designed for high-level drivers like Yohan Rossel, Yoann Bonato, Mads Østberg…, notes the head of the customer competition department. It is designed for everyone. Yohan, Yoann, Stéphane Lefebvre and Alejandro Cachón all drove the car in official testing sessions. They have enough experience to be able to develop the car, not only for professional drivers, but for everyone »
