Soon the end of strategies for the Power Stage?

The organizers of WRC are considering changing the regulations to prevent crews from starting late in the Power Stage in order to have a better position on the road.

Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) a lancé l’idée lors du Rally of Sweden contested last February by choosing to receive a time penalty, without effect on its final result due to the significant gaps, in order to benefit from a swept road. The Power Stage can now save a weekend since five bonus points are awarded to the author of the scratch.

This strategy nevertheless has the disadvantage of disrupting the progress of the Power Stage which has a particular time slot to be broadcast on TV channels.

The regulations could therefore prohibit crews penalized in the last stage from claiming points for the Power Stage, from the Tour de Corse contested next week. The crews could nevertheless still manage to circumvent the rule without having to wait several minutes at the start of the last special stage of the events.
