Coronavirus – The 2020 Safari Rally soon to be postponed?

Long hoped for, the return of the Safari Rally could well be postponed. Indeed, the Kenyan round of the World Rally Championship (WRC), scheduled for July 15 to 19, 2020, is subject to postponement due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Phineas Kimathi, the head of the organization, told national television NTV that a postponement would be decided within the next two weeks, “by April 17.”

The organizer explains that it is not only the health state of the country that will need to be analyzed, but also that of the nations represented in the WRC service park. “Even if we eventually manage to keep the situation in Kenya under control, what will happen to foreigners (drivers, marshals, teams)?

If the situation does not improve very quickly, especially in Europe (where all the teams in the premier category of the WRC, the manufacturer Michelin, and the majority of the crews are based. Editor's note), then a postponement is among the options. »

Kenya, which counts on April 6 122 official cases of Covid-19 and four deaths linked to this virus, is therefore not safe from decision which has already affected three meetings of the 2020 season : Argentina, Sardinia (Italy) and Portugal.
