Dani Sordo withdraws from Finland

The news was unfortunately expected, Hyundai confirmed it this Friday: Dani Sordo will not participate in the Rally of Finland 2016. The Spaniard, injured during preparation tests for the Nordic event after a problem with the suspension of the i20 WRC Nouvelle Génération, had fractured a vertebra and remained very uncertain for the next round of the World Rally Championship.

“Dani is recovering well from his injury and is on the road to recovery, comments Michel Nandan, Hyundai Team Principal. However, it is important that he recovers fully, so we have made the joint decision to miss Rally Finland. This will allow him to be at his best for Rally Germany in mid-August. »

The team based in Alzenau in Germany also carried out checks on the i20 to determine the causes of the Spaniard's exit from the track. “After a detailed analysis of the car, we identified the technical problem that led to Dani's accident. The specific parts are under review and we have already taken steps to ensure there will be no recurrence. » adds Nandan.

Hyundai also confirmed that the Dutch Kevin Abring, who is notably responsible for the development of the i20 R5, will be lined up at the wheel of the No. 20, for his third rally of the year.
