The Safari Rally The Kenyan race concluded, with Takamoto Katsuta taking the victory and Sami Pajari finishing third. Toyota Gazoo Racing was already testing yesterday to continue developing its new car for the 2027 World Rally Championship. As before, the team set up in Portugal, and this time Oliver Solberg was behind the wheel. Several images from these tests have leaked, even though Toyota didn't seem inclined to communicate about the development of this new car. These images were released by the municipality of Boticas itself, the Portuguese town where the tests were taking place. While the initial photos already allowed us to identify the car, this time we were able to get an even closer look at this future Toyota, despite its camouflage livery, which is appropriate for the current situation.

WRC 2027: Which model has Toyota chosen for its new car?

While it's still difficult to know exactly which production model Toyota used as the basis for its new prototype, it seems increasingly clear that it's a GR 86, given the prototype's similar lines, particularly its sloping rear end. For now, the trend of WRC 2027 is more about coupes and sedans, as we saw a few weeks ago with the first image of the Project Rally One, also slated to make its competitive debut in 2027. Toyota has reportedly already extensively tested this new model, which has logged over 2000 kilometers of testing: the Japanese company seems, for the time being, to be the best prepared and most advanced regarding these future regulations. So far, this Toyota WRC 2027 has appeared equipped with the 3-cylinder engine from the Rally2, from which it borrows many components.
