Esapekka Lappi uncertain for 2021

For once, there was no use of tongue-in-cheek at the finish of the last special of the Rally from Monza, Sunday. Esapekka Lappi, like all the other drivers, gave his analysis of his rally, where he ranked 4th, and his season, which he finished in 6th place.

“This rally was good. It was good to see that we were competitive in such difficult conditions,” commented the 29-year-old driver. Lappi had a superb Friday, thanks to a great tire strategy. “I’m really happy with my driving to be honest. »

After thanking his supporters over the years, the former Citroën driver, when asked about the possibility of seeing him back on January 21 for the opening of the Monte-Carlo Rally, seemed pessimistic.

“I’m afraid not,” said Lappi. For the moment I am not going to come back. " Not with M-Sport, nor another team. His departure would mark the end of a four-year adventure in WRC.

He started with Toyota before migrating to Citroën in 2019 to be closer to Sébastien Ogier. After the announcement of the withdrawal of the French manufacturer Lappi found himself on the sidelines, until M-Sport hired him in place of Elfyn Evans.

The Finn's main achievement was a success during his national rally in 2017. On the M-Sport side, the British team announced at the end of November that it wanted to take its time to complete its crew, knowing that Lappi, Gus Greensmith and Teemu Suninen are at the end of their contracts.
