In the fight for second place against Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) at Rally from Chile, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and his co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul suffered a big exit from the road in SS8. The crew was able to get out of the body of the i20 WRC after a series of rolls at full speed, but medical assistance was still requested for the Belgian.
Hyundai gave reassuring news about Thierry Neuville after his crash. The Korean team said the championship-leading Belgian did not suffer from any fractures or other injuries. Nicolas Gilsoul also underwent routine examinations.
Ott Tänak (Toyota) consolidated his lead. The Estonian returned to mid-stage service with a lead of more than 34 seconds over Sébastien Ogier (Citroën). Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) completes the provisional podium, but the Finn is threatened by Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) came within a second of the Finn.
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) completes the new Top 5 with a dozen seconds ahead of Esapekka Lappi (Citroën). Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) follows in 8th place ahead of Kalle Rovanperä (Skoda) still leading the WRC 2 Pro, now more than half a minute ahead of Mads Ostberg (Citroën).
Kris Meeke (Toyota) fell outside the Top 10 after rolling on SS7. Despite the heavy damage to his Yaris WRC, the Northern Irishman was able to stay on the pace and move up to 11th position after losing more than 6 minutes.
