To find a trace of Juha Kankkunen, we have to go back to the 2000 edition. At that time, the already four-time world champion put in a great performance with a third place overall in a Subaru Impreza behind Carlos Sainz and his fellow winner Tommi Mäkinen.
This time, the Finn returns in a completely different context since he arrives in the Monaco classic with a role within the management of the Toyota Gazoo Racing. Indeed, Juha Kankkunen will take up his duties as deputy director of the Japanese manufacturer in the world rally championship with which he won one of his titles in 1993.
« I will be with Jari-Matti [Latvala, director] in Monte Carlo, smiles-he. So we can spend more time together and I can get to know the role better. We've been working together for two years now, so I know him well. He's a great guy, very easy to talk to.
I can't wait to get started, it's a real pleasure to be back at Toyota (...) It's nice to have the opportunity to work for the team with which I won the world championship.. »
Le Rally Monte-Carlo 2025 is scheduled for January 22-26.
