ACI ready to move Rally Italy

After three events played almost normally (lack of snow and ice in Sweden, shortened event in Mexico), the WRC will be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic for the remainder of its schedule.

First event affected, Argentina, whose postponement had been made official in recent days. If the WRC promoter said he was ready to logically upset his calendar, efforts will also come from tests to arrive at the best possible compromise.

“It is now clear that the coronavirus pandemic situation, with its different methods of development from country to country, requires a complete review of the calendar of the main international automobile series, including the WRC, comments Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy.

In this sense, the ACI, as the Italian Motor Racing Federation and as organizer of the Rally of Italy Sardinia (June 4-7), stands ready, with the FIA and the WRC promoter, to study a possible new location for the rally.

This is to allow the creation of a new calendar which, on the one hand, allows the smooth running of the series, and, on the other hand, protects races of prestige and great historical importance, such as the Rally of Italy Sardinia. »

To date, only the Argentina Rally has seen its initial date changed. The Rally of Portugal, scheduled for the weekend of May 24, is the next event on the calendar. But will it take place in 60 days?
