SS1 stopped prematurely in Mexico, Lappi leading

This time there is no question of spectator placement, subject on which the FIA wishes to move forward, but this is indeed the route of the opening super-special of the Rally from Mexico which caused the premature end of this inaugural ES.

The reason : a jump artificially created for the occasion and which suffered from the passage of the first WRC in action. Après le passage de Kris Meeke (Toyota), les organisateurs ont déclaré que la zone était trop endommagée et ne pouvait être réparée, avec pour conséquence une sécurité insuffisante.

The decision was therefore made to stop the passage of the competitors, with the drivers having to start after Meeke receiving a fixed time equivalent to that of the Briton. Among them, the three major protagonists of the 2018 WRC: Sébastien Ogier (Citroen), Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Ott Tänak (Toyota), current leader of the general classification.

It is Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) qui signe donc le scratch devant Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai), Meeke, Elfyn Evans (M-Sport Ford), suivi du trio Neuville – Tänak – Ogier, puis Teemu Suninen (M-Sport Ford), Dani Sordo (Hyundai) et Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota).

Alberto Heller (Ford Fiesta R5) took the lead in WRC2, while Lukasz Pieniazek leads in WRC2 Pro with his M-Sport Ford WRT Ford Fiesta R5.

The first real stage of the Rally Mexico will begin this Friday at 17:18 p.m., and will be followed live via our live-text.
