If Nasser Al-Attiyah hoped to return to the WRC at the wheel of a Toyota Yaris, the project is behind schedule and others could pull the rug out from under him.

The Toyota track moves away for Al-Attiyah

As we reveal to you in issue 2157 of AUTOhebdo, Toyota Gazoo Racing devrait bientôt disposer d’une quatrième Yaris WRC. The Japanese manufacturer has been in discussions for several months with Nasser Al-Attiyah, but the Japanese brand would not have appreciated the affair becoming known.

The Qatari hoped to be at the start of the Rally of Argentina (April 26-29), which would have been its first WRC entry since 2013. But Toyota is now considering fielding its fourth mount in Portugal for Katsuta Takamoto, winner of WRC 2 in Sweden.

Nasser Al-Attiyah has overcome several disappointments since the start of the year, the double winner of the Dakar not having been able to participate in the first round of the FIA World Cup for Rallies-Raids currently being contested in Abu Dhabi due to the boycott of United Arab Emirates.
