The Renault Clio Rally4 ready to open the Monte-Carlo Rally

The Clio family is expanding in the competition range of Renault. Following on from the Rally5 seen this year on international and national rallies (as part of the Clio Trophy in France), the version rally4 will be officially presented at the end of the week as part of the Rally Monte-Carlo, opening of WRC.

The one which will be entered as opener 0 with the duo Florian Bernardi – Victor Bellotto, the Rally4 takes the basis of the Rally5, namely a body based on the Clio RS Line, but which this time features a largely reworked engine in comparison of the Rally5.

Turbo, piston, connecting rods, the areas of intervention are numerous to increase the power of the 4 l 1,3-cylinder to 215 hp, transmitted to the front wheels only via a Sadev 5-speed gearbox. Racing brakes and Bos shock absorbers complete the preparation picture.

The development allowed Renault to complete more than 5 km with the drivers requisitioned for the occasion, such as Stéphane Sarrazin, Bryan Bouffier, Jean-Sébastien Vigion and Manu Guigou.

“We are delighted to be able to lift the veil on the Clio Rally4 at the Monte-Carlo Rally thanks to our historic links with the Automobile Club de Monaco, indicates Benoît Nogier, commercial director of Renault Sport Racing.

The Clio Rally4 was designed without compromise with a simple goal: to be the best two-wheel drive in its category. We are extremely satisfied with the development carried out to achieve this objective and all the drivers involved have reported a car that is both efficient and fun to drive.

We are convinced that it has all the assets to become the benchmark on regional, national and international rallies, both on asphalt and on gravel. We can't wait to see it at work on this magnificent field of expression that is the Rallye Monte-Carlo before its competitive debut once homologation is obtained. »

Approval which should take place before April 2021.
