This is a gesture that deserves to be highlighted. As part of the Rally from Croatia this weekend (April 20-23), Toyota played the fair play card towards Hyundai. South Korean manufacturer unable to enter three cars this week after death of Craig Breen, the management of the Japanese brand made a very important choice in the interests of fairness.
With 4 Yaris entered in Croatia, Toyota once again presents itself as the major force in the field of the premier category of the WRC. When there are 4, only 3 can score points in the Manufacturers' championship. This time, the situation will be somewhat different.
Indeed, Toyota has indicated that only two of its cars will be eligible for Manufacturers' points during the 2023 Croatian Rally. Thus, the Japanese firm has decided to bet on Kalle Rovanperä and Sébastien Ogier. No worries, however, for Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta who will still be able to score points in the Drivers' championship. This decision was taken as a matter of sporting fairness in order to support Hyundai which, after the death of Craig Breen a few days ago, will only enter two i20s in the Balkans.
“As a sign of solidarity, the teams have agreed that only two crews will be designated as eligible for Manufacturers points on this rally. Our nominated crews will be #17 (Ogier-Landais) and #69 (Rovanperä-Haltunnen), with #33 (Evans-Martin) and #18 (Katsuta-Johnston) eligible for Driver points as usual,” writes Toyota on his social networks.

The Toyota team is making a very nice gesture and its sporting spirit deserves to be highlighted in this era where cynicism and business too often prevail. New proof of sportsmanship and values for a manufacturer which, on the circuit, has already carried the WEC alone for many years before the arrival of hypercars and lmdh hearths.
