Monte-Carlo 2024 will be installed in Gap

During the last two editions, the opening round of the WRC season was held in Monaco. In January 2024, the service park will not be in the Principality, but in Gap, as was already the case between 2014 and 2021.

Monte-Carlo 2024 will be installed in Gap

In 2022 and 2023, the ACM acceded to Monaco's request by installing its entire event in the port. The start and finish podiums were also on the edge of the Mediterranean as well as the press room or the headquarters of the rally. This will not be possible next January. By the time the first meeting of the 2024 world championship takes place (from January 22 to 28), work will no longer make it possible to accommodate a large enough service park. It was therefore decided that the 92e edition will be located in Gap. The sweet capital has already welcomed the oldest sleeve of the WRC between 2014 and 2021. However, there will only be teams and competitors. The departure and arrival ceremonies will again be organized in Monaco. With such prerogatives, this will inevitably generate somewhat cumbersome logistics since the crews will have to set off from the Place du Casino probably on Thursday. Will they only do it and then go back to Gap? Will they leave for a night loop on Thursday evening before reaching the town of Hautes-Alpes late at night? All scenarios are possible to make this protocol obligation as least penalizing as possible. The establishment of the service park at Gap also opens up great prospects. Much criticized for its route being too “southern” this year, the ACM will be able to imagine an itinerary offering special stages likely to have a winter character. Even if the snow is less and less present, the heights around Gap are more likely to receive it than the Nice hinterland. The program for the oldest road event will be revealed at the end of July.
