The end of the season is approaching, the last ones rally on dirt too! For the final dirt event of the season, and the penultimate of the 2024 championship, the WRC is heading to South America for the Rally Chile (September 26-29). This is the third time that the Chilean event has counted towards the world championship, after 2019 and 2023 (cancelled between 2020 and 2022 due to Covid). In the first two editions, it was Ott Tänak who won in Chile, for the first time on the Toyota Yaris, and the second time last year on the Ford Puma.

This year, in the Rally1 category, there will be four Toyota Yaris at the start of the Rally of Chile. In addition to the holder Elfyn Evans and the "returning" Sébastien Ogier, who will conclude the season in search of the world title, the double reigning champion Kalle Rovanperä will join the party. The Finn, unlucky at home during the Rally Finland with a retirement in the penultimate special stage while he was leading, will try to take his revenge and secure a fourth victory in 2024.

He will not be the only Finn at Toyota since, to everyone's surprise, Sami Pajari will replace Takamoto Katsuta sidelined after his repeated poor performances in his last performances. The young nugget from the Japanese fold will compete in his second rally in the premier category, he who shone at home for his first in Rally1 (4th in the Rally Finland).

As usual, there will be three Hyundai i20 engaged with the duo Thierry Neuville – Ott Tänak on the two cars entered for the year. The third car will be occupied by Esapekka Lappi, who will experience his fifth WRC rally of the season. Finally, at M-Sport, the sensation Martins Sesks returns for a third time in the premier class aboard a non-hybrid Ford Puma, alongsideAdrien fourmaux and Grégoire Munster.

There will also be 18 Rally2 drivers at the start of the South American event, with big names like Oliver Solberg (Skoda), Yohan Rossel (Citroën), Nikolay Gryazin (Citroën), Gus Greensmith (Skoda), Jan Solans (Toyota) and Pierre-Louis Loubet (Skoda). The first mentioned, in the running for the WRC2 title, will be favourites for the Rally Chile.
