Rally Estonia in contention for WRC

After Ypres or Rally Liepaja,Estonia formalized contacts with the promoter of the World Rally Championship WRC to organize a round on the Baltic tracks in the future 2020 calendar, expected to be revealed this Friday at the end of the World Motor Sport Council.

An arrival in the WRC concert which would be far from being a surprise, the Rally of Estonia (not to be confused with the Dirtfish Rally) being traditionally placed as a preamble to the Rally of Finland in the heart of summer, while becoming in 2019 a promotional round of the FIA series.

“After three years in the FIA European ChampionshipERC, it was clear for our team to go to the absolute top and bring the WRC to Estonia, recalls Urmo Aava, director of the event. We started working towards this goal in 2017. In 2018 we organized a test rally and in 2019 for the first time in the world, an official WRC promotion rally.

All of this has laid the foundations for us to be able to offer the FIA and the WRC promoter a race that is both attractive and safe. We can prove that motorsport needs not only large markets but also smaller innovators.

I can confirm that the WRC promoter offered us to organize a round in Estonia in 2020. We made different requests to different institutions. We should receive answers in the coming days and we can then begin negotiations with the FIA and the WRC.

The aim is to achieve the best conditions for Estonia and Estonian motorsport and maximum global coverage. It is important to work towards a common goal so that all parties involved, including the FIA and the WRC promoter, get the most out of it. »

Popular success seems to have been achieved in the event of confirmation of the integration of the Estonian round, Ott Tänak, reigning world champion, who can count on strong support.
