Le Rally of Sweden will it be canceled for the second year in a row? After Covid-19, it is a file problem linked to the validation of the course which could be the cause of this cancellation. Compared to previous editions, the 2022 edition should take place on new roads, located in the north of the country due to the lack of snow on those of Värmland, where the event has been held since 1973. According to several local media , including Västerbottens-Kuriren, the new route presented by the organizers is still under study. For the file to be complete and validated, several authorizations would be missing for some special events.

The organizers have until December 19 to present to the FIA and the WRC a finalized and ready test. This Tuesday, December 7, a meeting took place with the promoter of the WRC to discuss the situation in Sweden. In order for the Swedish round to take place on the scheduled date, i.e. from February 24 to 27, the county of Umeå (region where the Rally is to be held) has already paid around 1,7 million euros.

Glenn Olsson, director of the Swedish Rally organization, did not hide his concern when discussing the situation. “Our goal was to finalize the course before this summer. So we're really behind schedule.". In the event of cancellation, what would be the backup solution? Like last season, Finland could host what would be the 2nd round of the 2022 WRC, after an inaugural event to be held in Monte-Carlo.
