Rally Portugal canceled

Postponed just like the Argentinian and Italian events, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, le Rally of Portugal, scheduled for May 21 to 24, was finally canceled by the organizers this Thursday due to the uncertainty of the global situation.

This is therefore the first event of the World Rally Championship WRC 2020 to be officially canceled, no replacement date, notably in October, could be found.

“After an assessment carried out jointly with our partners, the different municipalities, the national authorities and the sponsors, all the health and safety conditions necessary to manage the Rally of Portugal in a safe manner are not met given the unpredictable situation in which we live these days, and also the uncertainty of the opening of national borders or airspace, indicate the promoters in a press release.

The Automóvel Club de Portugal deeply regrets this decision. But it is a responsible decision considering the thousands of fans, teams, municipalities, sponsors and everyone involved in the event. »

The historic WRC event, present from 1973 to 2002, then in 2007 before being back without interruption in the WRC since 2009, intends to return in 2021 in May.
