Mikko Hirvonen wants to confirm

Mikko Hirvonen, over-motivated by his victory over Sébastien Loeb during the Swedish Rally, wants to continue his march forward. If he wants to continue to be daring, the Finn also knows that his position as fly-half will not be the most enviable.

Mikko Hirvonen wants to confirm

Mikko Hirvonen, winner of his twelfth rally WRC in Sweden, will make his hundredth start in the discipline on the occasion of the Rally of Mexico. The Finn, who dominated Sébastien Loeb on Swedish snow, hopes to do the same on Mexican soil. Now certain of being able to beat the six-time world champion on a regular basis, Mikko Hirvonen dreams of securing a second victory.

However, his best result in Mexico was a third place in 2007, and his opening position could penalize him. From then on, the Ford driver remained cautious. “ Leading the championship has some disadvantages, so I will have to lead the way for the first gravel rally of the season, declares “Hirvo”. My rivals will have a better position on the road so it will be difficult. But I will try to find a way to aim for victory. I don't underestimate the difficulty of the challenge, but I wouldn't want to trade my victory in Sweden for a better position at the start. »

If he is satisfied with his victory for the opening of the WRC, the Finn knows that he owes it to his desire to focus on taking risks. The Ford driver does not want to stop there. “ Sweden was a perfect start for me and the team, attests Hirvonen. It is important to build on this success in Mexico, by continuing to make bold decisions, decisions which paid off during the first test. This first gravel rally of the season is always interesting because, with the majority of events taking place on this surface, it gives indications on how the championship can unfold. »

In order to acclimatize to the altitude and recover from jet lag, Mikko Hirvonen went to Leon this Friday, where the Rally Mexico will be based.
