Neuville campaigns for a change in the order of departures

The victory of Sébastien Loeb (Citroën) at the last Rally of Catalonia (Spain) did not only make people happy. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) did not appreciate this winning return, and campaigns in his usual column in CARhebdo (n°2190, to read on newsstands and in digital version) for a modification of the regulations WRC.

According to the Belgian, “competitors who come occasionally should start ahead of those competing for the entire season”, in the interest of sporting fairness. “It is not correct that drivers present occasionally benefit from better conditions than those who have signed contracts, compete all year round, and hope to win as many races as possible. To level the playing field, these “freelancers” would have to start in front, both on dirt and on asphalt.”, proposes the 2017 vice-champion, fourth in Catalonia.

Second in the general classification, three points behind Sébastien Ogier before the final in Australia (November 15-18), Thierry Neuville traveled to the Antipodes in advance « in order to digest the jetlag and arrive as relaxed as possible in Coffs Harbor (basis of rally. Editor’s note). »

Long leader of the Championship, the official Hyundai driver knows that he will have to unleash maximum attack if he wants to win the title. “It’s an event in which I have always been competitive (three podiums including one victory in five starts. Editor’s note). We actually won there last year by being the second to start.

The objective will be to finish ahead of Sébastien and score four points more than him. Any other result would be bad. So there won't be too much to calculate: you'll have to go all out... and not go off the road! »
