Official: RMC Motorsport and the Spanish Automobile Federation unveil WRT Rally1 Spain, their 2027 WRC project

As had been considered for several days since the release of certain information to that effect on social media, it is now confirmed: here are the beginnings of the third WRC2027 project to be launched for next season.

The information had leaked slightly on social media in recent days, but still needed to be confirmed: this has now been done, as the project stakeholders took advantage of the Rally from the Canary Islands to hold a press conference officially unveiling the WRT Rally1 Spain project. RMC Motorsport, a Spanish company renowned for developing cars competing in the local N5 group, and the RFEDA (Spanish Automobile Federation) will join forces to develop a car compliant with the regulations. WRC 2027 under the title WRT Rally1 Spain. With the Belgian Project Rally One and the prototype currently being developed by ToyotaThis is therefore the third project identified for this new regulatory era of the World Rally Championship. "This project is the professional culmination of RMC Motorsport's career.""That's what Roberto Méndez, the man behind the Spanish company, revealed. As a reminder, this new tuner, aiming to join the WRC starting in the 2027 season, will have to build at least ten cars."

WRT Rally1 Spain, the first 100% Spanish project in the WRC since Seat

As will be the case for the other cars under this new regulation, components from Rally2 will be used for this Spanish entry. It will have a tubular chassis, Rally2 suspension, will of course be four-wheel drive, and will have, under the hood, the 1,6 Turbo 4-cylinder engine borrowed, very likely, from the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, although discussions are, officially, still ongoing. “We couldn’t miss this opportunity to join this new era of the WRC through RMC Motorsport, which will also help to fulfill several objectives set at the time of my election.”"The Spanish driver Javier Villa, who previously rode for the Spanish federation," explained Manuel Aviñó, president of the Spanish federation. Single seat But hillclimbing, too, was chosen to develop this new car, whose first test runs are expected by the end of 2026. The stated objective, according to the project's stakeholders, is to join the 2027 WRC grid at least from the middle of next season. For the first time since the end of the Seat program in the WRC, a 100% Spanish project will therefore see the light of day in the World Rally Championship. For the moment, no concrete information has been released regarding the model used as the visual basis for this car.
