Sébastien Ogier celebrated his 6th consecutive world title last weekend in Australia after seeing off his opponents Ott Tänak (Toyota) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) abort in the last step.
It was a relief for the Frenchman who, with only 3 points ahead of the Hyundai driver before the last round, had everything to fear from his position on the road as he recounts in AUTO issue 2192weekly.
“With a better way to manage starting orders, there would certainly be even more exciting, more intense and more real fightshe said. I have nothing against rally from Australia, but it's not the ideal place to end the season. It's a bit strange to find yourself in the middle of nowhere, at a round where there aren't many spectators to compete in the final of a championship. This is one of the events where position on the road is everything! So, it spoiled the battle between us a bit this weekend. »
“We almost never really fought. If we did this at Wales or on an asphalt round, between the first three on the road, there wouldn't be much of a gap and there would be a real fight...", insisted the world champion.
