In Oliver Solberg's season, the Rally from Chile will mark a very important milestone. In fact, this will be his seventh and final round in which he will be able to score points, as stipulated in the regulations.
So far, the son of 2003 world champion Petter, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on September 23, has a nice record with three victories, two second places and one retirement (Portugal) in 6 starts (out of his 7 that count in the championship). This gives him a lead of 3 points on Sami Pajari and 25 on Yohan Rossel before Chile. An appointment which could allow him to be crowned there.
Oliver Solberg closer than ever to the title
So, what does the Swede need to end the suspense this weekend? The equation is relatively very simple. In the event of victory on Chilean soil, Oliver Solberg will no longer be catchable by his competitors, despite the countdown (the six best results are taken into account).
If the leader does not win in Chile, the title would then be decided in Japan at the end of the year (November 21-24) where Sami Pajari could conclude his campaign. Currently runner-up to Oliver Soberg, the Finn is indeed present in South America this weekend but to drive in Rally1. On site, he replaces Takamoto Katsuta on one of the Toyota Official Yaris.
