Ott Tänak titled in Catalonia if…

As in F1Where Lewis Hamilton can clinch a sixth world crown in Mexico this Sunday, the outcome of the 2019 World Rally Championship can be sealed this weekend in Catalonia.

The potential scenarios between Ott Tänak (Toyota), Sébastien Ogier (Citroen) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) apparaissent plutôt limpides pour un éventuel sacre de l’Estonien près de Salou.

The latter only needs to mark two more points that Sébastien Ogier at the end of this rally, and thus have a 30-point margin before the Australian final next month.

A victory would therefore necessarily ensure the title for Tänak, without worrying about Ogier's result, who could only score 23 points (18 + the five bonus points for victory in the Power Stage). A victory for Ogier would, however, mechanically postpone the awarding of the coronation in Australia.

Distanced by 41 points before the Catalan meeting, Thierry Neuville must score 11 points more than Tänak this weekend to still hope for a first world title. The Belgian knows that his chances remain tiny while those of Hyundai Motorsport remain much more realistic with a view to the Manufacturers' ranking.
