No place for Mikkelsen in Rally1, but a continuation in WRC2

Yet WRC2 and ERC champion in 2021, Andreas Mikkelsen seems doomed to continue to chomp at the bit in the lower echelon of rallying.

Andreas Mikkelsen is the most glaring example of the lack of available steering wheels in the main category of the World Rally Championship (WRC). Despite a perfect 2021 season, marked by a coronation in the European Rally Championship (ERC) and WRC2 with the Toksport WRT formation, the Norwegian will remain in the same category in 2022.

The 32-year-old driver, a three-time WRC winner during the Volkswagen adventure, confirmed his plans for the coming season with the competition's official website. “This is the basic program we have at the moment, that of starting 2022 with Toksport and doing WRC2.

I want to get back to the top of the WRC and be in a Rally1 next year. For now, no seats are free, but all I can do is take priority if a seat becomes available », he declared, a bit bitter but realistic.
