This is news which may well provoke further controversy in the paddock of the F1. The FIA announced the return of Pirelli in WRC next year after the Italian manufacturer left the sport at the end of the 2010 season to concentrate on single-seaters. This news comes at a time when the contract renewal of the F1 supplier is still awaited while speculation about a return from Michelin is becoming more and more pressing.
With Michelin, Dmack and Hankook, Pirelli will be the fourth manufacturer to enter the WRC. A marketing strategy that delights Jarmo Mahonen, the director of the pole Rally of the FIA. “We are obviously very happy to see a competition coming between four manufacturers next year, three of whom are already registered in our Championship. The return of Pirelli to the discipline is very positive and all four brands will provide a superb platform for open competition and varied choice for our competitors. »
