This is a statement that will fuel rumors of a more extensive program for Sébastien Ogier. Le Français, vainqueur des deux rallyes auxquels il a participé en 2023 (Monte-Carlo et Mexique) et leader du championnat, pourrait participer à quelques épreuves supplémentaires cette saison. Le directeur principal de l’écurie Toyota en WRC, Jari-Matti Latvala, hinted at this possibility for the French driver, if the latter is interested in the quest for a 9th title.

" We never know, confided the ex-Finnish driver, on the WRC website. I won't try to push him, because it can always backfire. It has to come from Sébastien himself, and he has to be really sure of it. I think a little. You know, he initially said yes to me for seven rallies, and we all know what an asset he is to the team. Why not make a few more? »

« We can study the situation at the championship” confides Latvala

Initially, Sébastien Ogier was to appear sporadically with Toyota in 2023, alternating with Takamoto Katsuta in the 3rd Yaris Rally1. However, his two victories in as many rally disputed could change the situation. The Gapençais finds himself leader of the championship despite his absence in Sweden, and could even widen the gap during the next rally, in Croatia (April 20-23), in which he will be entered.

“We can look at the situation at the championship knowing that it's really good to have Sébastien in the team, continued Jari-Matti Latvala. Obviously, Takamoto is discovering a new role and there could be some trades if we want to protect him from pressure. We would then have Sébastien, if he is interested. I think it's really good for both. »

With this agreement from Toyota, the ball is now in the court of the eight-time world champion. The latter has not expressed his interest in participating in more rallies than planned in 2023. Could a victory in Croatia convince him?
