Rally Mexico: special preparation

After 3 disrupted seasons, the WRC returned to normal. The calendar started in Monte-Carlo before moving to Sweden and Mexico comes in 3rd position. Three countries, three rounds that have nothing in common, three challenges.

In North America, several parameters combine. In the middle of cacti, temperatures often exceed 30 C°, dust is omnipresent and especially the stages rise very high. Around the cities of León and Guanajuato, roads can reach up to 2700 m. This affects the efficiency of combustion engines. To function, it needs air and fuel. If the air density is lower at the entrance to the combustion chamber, the power is reduced. Generally, technicians say that cars lose 1% power for every 100 m of altitude. By playing on the maps and the rotation speed of the turbo, engine manufacturers try to compensate for this lack, but this increases the risk of overheating. Now equipped with a hybrid system, the Rally1s will discover this type of condition and it will be very interesting to see who has found the best solution to perfectly exploit the combustion and the boost provided by the electric.

Mexico will also mark the debut on gravel in 2023 and it will be the first time that the cars have set foot on such a surface since New Zealand (November 2022). It will be necessary to monitor what the hierarchy is with the developments made since then to the cars.
