Since he started competing in world championship races (the first was in Mexico 2008), Sébastien Ogier learned that nothing is ever a given. Although he already has 9 successes at the Monte Carlo (8 in WRC and 1 in IRC) and leading the favourites, he did not show up at the start of the event displaying his certainties. Seb on the contrary displayed a long list of questions which, for once on this event, did not only concern the weather and road conditions. Discovering like all his colleagues the new Hankook tyres, he clearly lacked reference points.
With the rule limiting the number of test days, the teams only did one day of testing per driver to prepare for the Monte-Carlo. While this may seem completely absurd given the complexity of this event, the course of the four days showed that it mainly offered an open race. There were naturally a lot of questions at the start, even for a guy like Sébastien Ogier who already had sixteen participations.
