The first stage of the Safari Rally once again took place in Kasarani, a suburb of Nairobi. Several personalities made the trip to inaugurate the Talanta Motorsport Academy within the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) in Kasarani.

« Motorsport is special for Kenyans, said HE Rigathi Gachagua, the Vice President of Kenya. With the rich history of such successful events as the Safari – which celebrated its 70e anniversary last year – Kenya is laying the foundation for soil, growth and nurturing of its talents. The initiative marks an important milestone. We are rebuilding and positioning Kenya as a motorsport hub and attracting talent and investment globally. » So that they can demonstrate their potential, the children of this neighborhood will be welcomed and taken care of thanks to the efforts of the government and partner companies.

« The future and present of motorsport in this country belongs to young children, explained Maina Muturi, president of the Kenyan Motorsport Federation. We are planting the seeds of the generation of a family that aspires to emulate the pilots of yesteryear. We not only focus on sports, but also on training these children to become serious citizens in their future lives. »

Present on site, Ott Tänak and Petter Solberg spent some time with the young people. “ You must keep aiming higher and living your dream, because a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step ", said the Estonian.

Local legends of rally, such as Karan Patel, Patrick Njiru, Abdul Sidi and Azar Anwar, also participated in the event during which Rodrigo Rocha, FIA Vice President for Africa, said: “ There should be no barriers to taking part in motorsport and this academy creates a supportive environment for less privileged children. »
