Safari Rally – Nicolas Ciamin ready to take on the African challenge

Although it has lost much of its specificity, the Safari in Kenya remains a separate event in the calendar. Completely novices, Nicolas Ciamin and his co-driver Yannick Roche, accompanied by the 2C Compétition team, are trying to do everything possible to complete the adventure and come back with points in WRC2.

With its “à la carte” mode of operation, the WRC2 championship allows competitors to choose the program they want according to their finances and according to different strategies. After Monte-Carlo, Nicolas Ciamin initially announced that he would only return to Croatia (April 18-21). The Niçois will finally compete in the Safari (March 28-31).

At first glance, facing Kenya with a Rally2 does not seem like the most sensible thing. If the African round is less demanding than before, the cars are also less prepared for such a torture session. However, the pilot is not at the origin of the project. “I was the one who suggested it., explains Florent Peronnet, team manager of the 2C Compétition team. This came from the fact that I find that the calendar is really focused on Earth with a lot of Nordic rounds. The Poland, Latvia, Finland sequence will cost a fortune. The dates are so close that the truck had to go for at least two races and maybe even all three. This meant having to service the car on site, multiple hotel nights, and in Finland, everyone knows that this is overpriced. Furthermore, if you are not an expert on this surface, going to these events comes with the assurance of gaining 1” per kilometer. Between the requested budget, the impossibility of achieving good results and doing well in the championship
