Since the FIA unveiled the technical regulations for the WRC which is due to come into force in January 2027, the competition is awaiting the response of Hyundai. Cyril Abiteboul announced last year that the brand would be present this season, but without specifying what would happen for 2026.
With Hyundai's commitment to WEC via Genesis, there is a risk that Hyundai will withdraw. The Frenchman reiterates that he needs the WRC to give him good reasons to maintain the brand's involvement in rallyDuring the Monte Carlo summit, he also suggested that the answer would be given before the summer. Spring is only just around the corner, and several people in Kenya are saying the choice hasn't been made yet.
Neuville: "These rumors are unfounded"
It is in this context of heavy uncertainty that a rumor came to affirm that the departure of Hyundai would be confirmed soon, which did not please Thierry Neuville.
« Like everyone else, we have just learned of these rumors which are obviously unfounded, said the Belgian at the Safari Rally. They're just thrown out there to create a buzz. It was a shock to everyone. It particularly annoys me because it's a lack of respect for all the people on the team who fight and get up every morning motivated to do their job well and for the continuation of this program. They're obviously worried that it might stop, but I'm in a good position to tell you that no decision has been made. Hyundai's future is uncertain, but until the choice has been made, I don't think it's justified to start rumors like this. »
