Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) will he become the only record holder for victories in the Rally du Mexico ? The Frenchman, tied with Sébastien Loeb in the Central American competition (six successes, from 2013 to 2015 then from 2018 to 2020), is on the heels of leader Esapekka Lappi (Hyundai) before the start of the second stage this Saturday March 18.

“I’m happy with our first day. The times are satisfactory, we are exactly where we wanted to be,” declared the eight-time world rally champion on Friday evening. Sébastien Ogier is 5”3 behind Esapekka Lappi.

“There wasn’t much more we could have done except by taking a lot of risks and that’s not the approach I want to have here. The El Chocolate stage was tough, but it always was. It's not very pleasant to drive, you had to fight with the car. »
“We attack but without doing too much, and we will continue tomorrow. It is very difficult to assess the level of grip on the rear axle. The ES will be different, we'll see what happens. »
