WRC – Rally Chile
Relive the second day with live commentary

22h49 – 🏁👋 Thank you all for following us, see you tomorrow at 13:20 pm for the last day of this Rally of Chile! Have a good evening!

Rovanperä emerges from fog to lead Rally Chile, Evans loses ground

22:47 p.m. – SS12 : 🏁 Elfyn Evans closes the Rally1 ball and finishes with a delay of 10″4 on Adrien fourmaux. The Frenchman therefore signs his second scratch of this Rally of Chile! Kalle Rovanperä finishes this second day in the lead, with a lead of 15″1 on Elfyn Evans! In WRC2, it is Nikolay Gryazin who finishes this day in the lead.

ES12 – Ranking

General ranking after ES12

22:44 p.m. – SS12 : Ott Tänak crossed the finish line with 13″6 behind the reference time. The Estonian therefore retains his 3rd place overall ahead of Thierry Neuville, an essential position for the championship with the points distributed this evening!

22:41 p.m. – SS12 : Kalle Rovanperä was ahead in the first intermediates, but the Finn finally finished with a delay of 0″8 on Adrien Fourmaux! The Finn should however increase his lead since Elfyn Evans and Ott Tänak are behind in the first intermediates. For the Frenchman, it smells like a scratch…

22:38 p.m. – SS12 : The young Finn just finished, 18″6 behind Adrien Fourmaux. A hard day of learning for him too, but the driver Toyota survived under this thick fog and finished this day in 6th place, ahead of Grégoire Munster.

22:35 p.m. – SS12 : Grégoire Munster concludes this 12th special with 24″3 behind Adrien Fourmaux. The Frenchman should therefore indeed finish in 5th place this evening, since Sami Pajari is also very behind in the intermediates.

22:32 p.m. – SS12 : No new best time for Thierry Neuville on this SS12! The Belgian concedes 9″5 on the time of Adrien Fourmaux. He should, barring an accident among the first three, finish this Saturday in 4th place.

22:29 p.m. – SS12 : “Lacking motivation” in his own words, Esapekka Lappi finished the day at a senator’s pace, 32 seconds behind Adrien Fourmaux’s time.

22:26 p.m. – SS12 : ⏱️🇫🇷 Adrien Fourmaux beats Martins Sesks' time with a time of 17'17″3. The Frenchman should finish the day in 5th place, but let's wait for the arrival of Grégoire Munster and Sami Pajari to confirm it. In any case, it's a good day for the Northerner, who showed a good pace to return to the Top 5. « It's crazy, the fog, the rain... It's a shame with the one-minute penalty yesterday, we could be in a good position right now."

22:23 p.m. – SS12 : ⏱️ First reference time for Martins Sesks in 17'41″9. The Latvian will have spent the morning opening the road, and the afternoon in the fog: a hard learning experience at the highest level! Tomorrow, he will set off after Sébastien Ogier.

22:15 p.m. – SS12 : 📺 Let me tell you that it's not good to be a spectator of this Rally of Chile... for once, it's perhaps better in front of the TV!

22:12 p.m. – SS12 : 🌧️ As if the fog wasn't enough, it even starts to rain on this 12th special!

22h10 – 🔴 Note that the previous special was interrupted by a red flag due to fog after Fabrizio Zaldivar passed.

22:08 p.m. – SS12 : 🔎 Elfyn Evans had set the best time this morning during the first pass on this special, in 17'04″3.

22h05 - ES12 : 🟢 The 12th special, the last of the day, is launched with the departure of Martins Sesks!

21h57 – 📺 To give you an idea of the hellish conditions under the Chilean fog, here is a small camera on board the Hyundai i20 N. Impressive images!

21h54 – 🔎 Here is the general classification at the end of SS11! Kalle Rovanperä is therefore the new leader of the Rally Chile, while in WRC2 too, the standings were shaken up: Oliver Solberg, victim of a puncture, lost the lead of the category… and it was finally Nikolay Gryazin who took back the lead of the rally. Yohan Rossel lost more than forty seconds in this special and dropped to 3rd place, 30 seconds behind the leader.

21h43 – Meet at 22:05 p.m. for the start of ES12 (Maria de las Cruces 2 – 28,72 km).

21:41 p.m. – SS11 : 🏁 Elfyn Evans loses big on this 11th special! The Welshman concedes 24″1 to Thierry Neuville, author of his first scratch of the day, but especially 16″1 on Kalle Rovanperä who takes the lead of the Rally of Chile by 5″5 in front of his teammate!

ES11 – Ranking

21:38 p.m. – SS11 : Ott Tänak finishes this ordeal special with a big delay of 18″7 on his teammate at the finish of SS11. Thierry Neuville comes back to less than 15 seconds of the Estonian before the last special of the day!

21:37 p.m. – SS11 : ⚠️ WRC2 alert: Oliver Solberg is stopped in the special stage! He suffered a puncture and had to change his wheel. The Swede set off again but he will lose the lead in the category.

21:36 p.m. – SS11 : If he concedes 5″0 on Thierry Neuville's time, Kalle Rovanperä is well on his way to taking the lead in the Rally of Chile since Elfyn Evans is 18″5 behind at the 4th intermediate!

21:34 p.m. – SS11 : The overall standings could well be shaken up, as Ott Tänak and Elfyn Evans are struggling in the fog! Kalle Rovanperä is doing better for now!

21:33 p.m. – SS11 : A lot of time lost by Sami Pajari, who suffered in the thick fog! The Finn certainly did not want to take any risks at the wheel of the Yaris Rally1 and conceded 39″8 on the reference time of Thierry Neuville. He fell to 7th place overall behind Adrien Fourmaux and Grégoire Munster.

21:30 p.m. – SS11 : Grégoire Munster crossed the finish line 10″3 behind Thierry Neuville, but 0″5 behind his teammate.

21:27 p.m. – SS11 : ⏱️🇧🇪 Thierry Neuville takes the provisional best time in 15'57″1!

21h25 - ES11 : ⚠️ Esapekka Lappi lost too much time on this special for it not to be just a precaution: the Finn finished with a significant delay of 1'01″8 on Adrien Fourmaux. However, at the finish, "EP" simply evokes... a lack of motivation. Indeed, he has just taken a 2-minute penalty for having clocked in early before the special!

21:21 p.m. – SS11 : ⏱️🇫🇷 Best provisional time for Adrien Fourmaux in 16'07″9, that's more than 20 seconds faster than Martins Sesks. "It's a mix, the start of the special is very dry then abrasive, then with the fog you can't see anything. I don't know what's best for the tires, because it changes too much."

21:18 p.m. – SS11 : ⏱️ Martins Sesks comes out of this pea soup first and sets the reference time in 16'29"6. That's more than a minute slower than this morning's best time! Latvian evokes visibility of "20-30 meters", no more, over a good part of the route.

21h11 – ES11 : 📸 However, if we gain even more altitude, it gives very beautiful photos!

21:08 p.m. – SS11 : ☁️ The fog becomes thicker and thicker as the pilots gain altitude… and visibility is very poor!

21:05 p.m. – SS11 : 🔎 During the first pass this morning, fatal for Sébastien Ogier, it was Kalle Rovanperä who won the scratch in 15'23″8 on this special.

21:01 p.m. – SS11 : 🟢 No time to breathe, Martins Sesks is already back on SS11!

20h53 – 🔎 Here is the general classification at the end of SS10! Elfyn Evans is gaining some breathing room ahead of Kalle Rovanperä, while Oliver Solberg is extending his lead at the top of WRC2. Yohan Rossel has taken a 10-second penalty for jumping the start.

20h44 – Meet at 21:01 p.m. for the start of ES11 (Rio Lia 2 – 25,58 km).

20:42 p.m. – SS10 : 🏁 Elfyn Evans closes the Rally1 ball with the best time of the special in 10'23"8! The Welshman takes 2"3 back from Kalle Rovanperä and increases his lead to 13"6 over his teammate!

ES10 – Ranking

20:39 p.m. – SS10 : It is not beaten by Ott Tänak who was nevertheless ahead of the first intermediates. The Estonian concedes 1″0 to the Finn.

20:36 p.m. – SS10 : ⏱️ Kalle Rovanperä takes the best provisional time in 10'26″1! Behind, Ott Tänak and Elfyn Evans are riding at roughly the same times.

20:33 p.m. – SS10 : On an offensive strategy with three Soft tires, Sami Pajari finished this SS10 with a delay of 2″3 on Thierry Neuville.

20:30 p.m. – SS10 : In difficulty this morning, Grégoire Munster found his rhythm again on this second passage: the Belgian only conceded 6″1 on his compatriot. However, he lost his 6th place to his teammate Adrien Fourmaux.

20:27 p.m. – SS10 : ⏱️🇧🇪 Thierry Neuville posted the best provisional time in 10'28″6, 1″9 faster than Adrien Fourmaux. “It’s a very good stage, very clean. We followed our plan, yesterday we really struggled with the road position, today everything changed. Those in front are too far away, so we are in a situation where we have to be smart. Tomorrow is another day, we have a good road position for tomorrow.”

20:24 p.m. – SS10 : 2″6 behind Esapekka Lappi when crossing the finish line compared to Adrien Fourmaux.

20:21 p.m. – SS10 : ⏱️🇫🇷 Adrien Fourmaux logically improves with a time of 10'30″5. “We have a different strategy with the tyres, we will see if we made the right choice for the afternoon. We will see, it is quite close, there is a good fight coming this afternoon. The first part of the stage this morning was really slippery, as was the descent.”

20:18 p.m. – SS10 : ⏱️ Martins Sesks can attack more frankly this afternoon, he who opened the road this morning for the first time in his career in WRCThe Latvian set the first reference time in 10'42″4.

20:13 p.m. – SS10 : ☁️ The weather hasn't really changed since the morning: the clouds are still very low and the sky very overcast, the pilots could be bothered by the fog. It's 16°C in the air.

20h11 - ES10 : 🔎 During the first pass, it was Elfyn Evans who set the best time on this special in 10'35″0.

20h09 - ES10 : 🔎 Regarding the tire choices for this 2nd loop : Tänak, Munster, Fourmaux and Sesks took 6 Hard tyres. Evans, Rovanperä, Neuville and Lappi chose to take 4 Hards and 2 Softs, while Pajari was the most aggressive in his strategy with 3 Hards and 3 Softs.

20h07 - ES10 : 🟢 The action resumes at Rally Chile with Martins Sesks taking the lead on SS10!

20h02 – 💬 Here is the reaction of the Toyota drivers after the first loop of the day.

19h58 – 🔎 We recall the starting order for this second loop, with Martins Sesks who will start first like this morning.

1) Sesks
2) Fourmaux
3) Lappi
4) Neuville
5) Munster
6) Pajari
7) Rovanperä
8) Tanak
9) Evans
10) Gryazin (WRC2)
11) Solberg (WRC2)

17h00 – 👋 Meet at 20:07 p.m. for the start of SS10 and the second loop (Chivilingo 2 – 15,68 km)!

Evans' fragile lead at Rally Chile, Ogier's hopes fade

16:58 p.m. – SS9 : Here is the general classification at the end of SS9 after the first Rally2s have passed! Elfyn Evans is widening the gap at the top, while Yohan Rossel has lost control of WRC2 to Oliver Solberg.

16:47 p.m. – SS9 : 🏁 After Kalle Rovanperä in SS8, it's Elfyn Evans' turn to make the big attack in SS9! The Welshman sets the scratch in 17'04″3, 8 seconds faster than Thierry Neuville! The Welshman increases his lead to 11″3 ahead of his teammate!

ES9 – Ranking

16:44 p.m. – SS9 : Ott Tänak barely makes up anything on Kalle Rovanperä: the Estonian, who finished 1″3 behind Thierry Neuville on this SS9, only makes up two tenths on the Finn.

16:41 p.m. – SS9 : After a big attack in SS8, Kalle Rovanperä loses a little time on Thierry Neuville on this SS9: 1″5 behind the Belgian at the finish. Behind, Elfyn Evans is on the attack and already has an 8 second lead in the first intermediates!

16:38 p.m. – SS9 : A lot of time lost for Sami Pajari at the finish of this SS9! The Finn concedes 24″0 to Thierry Neuville and loses his 4th place overall to the Belgian!

16:35 p.m. – SS9 : Grégoire Munster, in more difficulty than yesterday, lost 22″3 seconds on Thierry Neuville on this 9th special and saw his teammate at M-Sport threaten him in the general classification: Adrien Fourmaux came back to just four tenths for 6th place!

16:32 p.m. – SS9 : ⏱️🇧🇪 Thierry Neuville chose this long special to start seriously attacking! The Belgian, who has 4th place overall in sight, posted the best provisional time in 17'12″3, 3″5 better than Adrien Fourmaux. "A difficult morning for us, we had serious problems all morning. Fortunately, we are at the finish, we will return to the service to repair the car. The windscreen wipers got stuck in the middle of the stage and I couldn't see anything."

16:29 p.m. – SS9 : Esapekka Lappi, who, let us remember, rides without a front bumper, suffers from this lack of aerodynamic support. The Finn concedes 18″4 on the Frenchman on this SS9, and loses a position to the M-Sport driver.

16:26 p.m. – SS9 : ⏱️🇫🇷 Adrien Fourmaux logically and largely beats Martins Sesks' time. The Frenchman clocked 17'15″8, which is 25″1 faster than the Latvian. "We'll see [at the end of the] loop if we can catch someone, there was a lot of fog in the stage."

16:23 p.m. – SS9 : ⏱️ Martins Sesks, who is learning the “job” of opener in Rally1 this Saturday, finishes this 9th special with a time of 17'40″9.

16:17 p.m. – SS9 : 🌧️ In addition to the low clouds, it is starting to rain lightly on the Chilean roads!

16:12 p.m. – SS9 : 📺 Apart from Sébastien Ogier's setbacks, Toyota got off to a pretty good start this Saturday in Chile with Elfyn Evans ahead of Kalle Rovanperä, and Sami Pajari in 4th place.

16:05 p.m. – SS9 : 🟢 Green light for SS9 with the departure of Martins Sesks to conclude this first loop of the day!

15h58 – 🔎 Here is the general classification after ES8! Elfyn Evans' lead has shrunk to just 1 seconds ahead of Kalle Rovanperä. In WRC8, it's a close race between Yohan Rossel, Oliver Solberg and Nikolay Gryazin: the three men are separated by less than 2 seconds!

15h46 – 👋 Meet at 16:05 p.m. for the start of ES9 (Maria de las Cruces 1 – 28,72 km)!

15:44 p.m. – SS8 : 🏁 Elfyn Evans crosses the line 9″7 behind Kalle Rovanperä… and sees the Finn come back to just 1″8 in the general classification! The Welshman is still in the lead at the end of SS8, a special stage that was fatal for Sébastien Ogier, who was forced to retire!

ES8 – Ranking

15:41 p.m. – SS8 : At fault from the first hectometres, Ott Tänak finished this special 10″7 behind Kalle Rovanperä and logically lost his 2nd place overall to the Finn.

15:38 p.m. – SS8 : ⏱️ Very good time from Kalle Rovanperä in 15'23″8, 11″8 better than Adrien Fourmaux! He could well take the lead in the Rally Chile with such weather!

15:35 p.m. – SS8 : Sami Pajari still as solid: the young Finn only loses 3″0 compared to Adrien Fourmaux and maintains his 4th place overall with a 9″4 lead over Thierry Neuville.

15:32 p.m. – SS8 : 11″0 behind Grégoire Munster on his teammate on the finish line of SS8.

15:31 p.m. – SS8 : ❌ Sébastien Ogier has retired! The Frenchman can't leave with his broken suspension!

15h30 - ES8 : 🇧🇪 Thierry Neuville makes sure of the move once again and only concedes 1″1 to Adrien Fourmaux at the finish of this SS8. "More or less good for us. I didn't think about Seb, he was behind anyway. We think about ourselves."

15:27 p.m. – SS8 : ⚠️ Big scare for Ott Tänak, who almost spun and had to lean against a bank to get going again! The Estonian lost 3-4 seconds in the story…

15h26 - ES8 : Esapekka Lappi loses 14″3 on the Frenchman and sees the M-Sport driver come back to only 3″7 overall for 7th place!

15h23 - ES8 : 🇫🇷⏱️ Adrien Fourmaux sets the best provisional time in 15'35″6! “Seb hit a rock on the inside while braking, it’s a real shame for him, it’s not his rally and we’re really sorry for him. We’re doing the best we can with what we have, let’s see what we can do. When you’re 2nd or 3rd on the road, the tyre wear is not huge compared to the ones behind.”

15:22 p.m. – SS8 : ⚠️ The eight-time world champion has still not left! In the slow motion footage, Sébastien Ogier hit a rock and went straight into a bank, at low speed. But that's the end of his hopes this Saturday... and perhaps the end of his title hopes!

15:20 p.m. – SS8 – ⚠️ Sébastien Ogier is stopped against a bank, a few meters from the finish! The Frenchman got out of his car, the suspension seems to be affected!

15:17 p.m. – SS8 : ⏱️ Martins Sesks sets the first reference time in 15'53″0.

15:13 p.m. – SS8 : While he pierces the very low clouds, Adrien Fourmaux is for the moment the fastest at the 3rd intermediate ahead of Sébastien Ogier, Esapekka Lappi and Martins Sesks.

15:05 p.m. – SS8 : 📺 In video, Esapekka Lappi's passage… without a front bumper at the finish of ES7!

15:01 p.m. – SS8 : 🟢 Just after SS7, Martins Sesks sets off on SS8! Let's continue!

15h00 – 🔎 Here is the general classification at the end of SS7 with Elfyn Evans who has regained some time at the head of the Rally of Chile and Yohan Rossel new leader in WRC2!

14h52 – 🇫🇷 Author of the best provisional time of SS7 in WRC2, Yohan Rossel takes back the lead of the category by 1″3 ahead of his teammate Nikolay Gryazin!

14h47 – Meet at 15:01 p.m. for the start of ES8 (Lota 1 – 25,58 km)!

14:45 p.m. – SS7 : 🏁 Elfyn Evans finished this 7th special with the best time in 10'35"0, 0"9 better than Sébastien Ogier! The Welshman therefore remains in the lead of the Rally of Chile with a 7"1 lead over Ott Tänak!

ES7 – Ranking

14:42 p.m. – SS7 : Ott Tänak loses 3″2 on Sébastien Ogier and 2″7 on Kalle Rovanperä at the finish of this SS7. Elfyn Evans is for the moment slightly ahead of the Estonian on the 3rd intermediate.

14:39 p.m. – SS7 : Kalle Rovanperä very close to stealing the scratch from Sébastien Ogier! The Finn finishes in a blaze and only concedes 0″5 to the Frenchman on the line!

14:36 p.m. – SS7 : 13″2 behind the young Sami Pajari on the time of the veteran Sébastien Ogier at the finish of SS7. The Finn is still 4th in the general classification.

14:33 p.m. – SS7 : Very solid on Friday, 5th with less than 14 seconds behind the leader at the end of the first day, Grégoire Munster had more trouble on this first pass: the Belgian lost 26″5 on Sébastien Ogier at the finish of SS7. He lost a position in the general classification to Thierry Neuville.

14:30 p.m. – SS7 : 🇧🇪 Thierry Neuville, championship leader and 6th overall this morning, crosses the line 3″4 behind Sébastien Ogier. Remember that the Belgian must secure the points today. Not too bad to be honest, it's very slippery and softs would have been the best choice for this stage. There are still a few left which are quite abrasive. We've made a few changes to the car, let's see if we can get it to work properly. We changed the shock absorber and springs yesterday afternoon. I have to get used to it."

14:27 p.m. – SS7 : ⚠️ It was with a Hyundai without its front bumper that Esapekka Lappi finished this SS7, after losing it in a slightly too deep abutment at the start of the special! The Finn conceded a delay of 13″3 on Sébastien Ogier's time, and will have to deal without protection at the front for the rest of the loop...

14:24 p.m. – SS7 : 🇬🇧 Adrien Fourmaux, very fast on Friday but distanced after a penalty, crossed the line 8″2 behind Sébastien Ogier's time. The two Frenchmen are separated by 17″5 for 8th place overall, in favor of the M-Sport driver. “The bumper was damaged in the stage, a lot of sweeping for sure. It was really damp and wet, wetter than I expected for sure. The car was on three softs and one hard.”

14:21 p.m. – SS7 : ⏱️🇫🇷 This was largely improved by Sébastien Ogier, who finished with a time of 10'35″9. The Frenchman assumes his strategy with four Soft tires, recalling that he "must try something" if he wants to move up the rankings.

14:17 p.m. – SS7 : ⏱️ Martins Sesks sets the first reference time in 10'59 "9, but he should logically be beaten by Sébastien Ogier, who already has a 15 second lead at the 3rd intermediate… "It was very slippery, for us it's the first time we're first on the road."

14:13 p.m. – SS7 : 📺 The young Latvian, who drives a Ford Puma without the hybrid system, had a complicated first day with a mistake in SS3 which forced him to retire. He will continue his learning of the premier class today, with sweeping on the program.

14:10 p.m. – SS7 : ☁️ Weather-wise, the clouds are quite low and the sky is quite overcast this Saturday morning. The track is still slightly soaked with some muddy patches after the rains at the beginning of the week.

14:07 p.m. – SS7 : 🟢 Martins Sesks sets off on SS7, here we go for this second day of the Rally Chile!

14h05 – 📺 Before Martins Sesks leaves on SS7, find the video summary of an animated first day on the Rally Chile!

14h03 – 🔎 Here is the starting order for this second day, with the return to the track of Martins Sesks after his retirement yesterday. The Latvian will have the difficult task of opening the road in front of Sébastien Ogier and Adrien Fourmaux.

14h00 – 🇬🇧 Yesterday, the two Frenchmen had a frustrating day: while both showed excellent pace, Adrien Fourmaux took a one-minute penalty following a mechanical problem encountered in liaison and Sébastien Ogier lost almost 2 minutes due to a puncture. The eight-time world champion also decided to limit his speeches as a protest against the FIA.

Sébastien Ogier, a silence that makes a lot of noise in Chile

13h57 – 🔎 For the first loop of the day, all the drivers set off with two spare wheels and a 4 Hard – 2 Soft distribution, except for Sébastien Ogier (2 Hard – 4 Soft) and Adrien Fourmaux (3 Hard – 3 Soft).

13h55 – 🤔 If you left us last night at the finish of SS6, you might be wondering why it’s Elfyn Evans, and not Ott Tänak, who is in the lead today. Well, here’s the explanation right below!

Rally Chile – Elfyn Evans leader after time correction

13h53 – 🔎 Here is the general classification before the start of this second day of racing in Chile, with Elfyn Evans leading a very compact Top 5, which is less than 15 seconds apart!
