Toyota worked on one of its “weaknesses” for Estonia

Victory on Estonian soil, Toyota Gazoo Racing has already experienced it twice in 2018 and 2019, while the Rally from Estonia was intended as a full-scale rehearsal before the Rally Finland, a major summer event in WRC.

Two victories to be credited to the hero of an entire nation, Ott Tänak, since passed into the clan Hyundai, and who failed to add his name once again to the winners of his home event, by winning the race in 2020 with the i20 Coupe WRC.

If the Estonian will be the big favorite for the 2021 edition, Toyota hopes to count on his trio Sébastien Ogier – Elfyn Evans – Kalle Rovanperä to seek a sixth WRC victory this year. For this, Jari-Matti Latvala's troops focused their tests on a very specific aspect.

“We focused on the smaller, more technical routes which were a bit of a weakness last year, underlines the Finnish Team Principal. I think we look better now in that area. »

3rd last year and clear leader of the Drivers' ranking, Sébastien Ogier, still supported by Julien Ingrassia, will once again have to keep track, but is firmly awaiting the Estonian challenge.

“Rally Estonia is difficult to win, especially when opening the road, but I will do my best to continue scoring big points, specifies the Frenchman. The terrain will definitely be a lot smoother than in Kenya, so we can really concentrate on driving and trying to find the limits.

It's always a tough challenge to be at the limit on such fast roads in northern Europe, but I think it's a challenge that every rider enjoys. »

With 34 points ahead of his teammate Elfyn Evans, Ogier has plenty to see ahead before returning to the asphalt in Ypres, the playground of his other great rival Thierry Neuville.
