Le Rally of Kenya, which takes place from March 27 to 31, could offer us one of the most significant events of the year. In Monte-Carlo and in Sweden, Totoya Gazoo Racing was dominated by Hyundai, which was clearly not expected by observers. The Japanese brand is far from admitting defeat, especially since Kenya is coming in big time. A rally considered to be their favorite playground... Takamoto Katsuta then emerges as one of the favorites. The perfect weekend to finally secure your first victory in WRC.

Totoya remains undefeated in Kenya over the last three editions. Jari-Matti Latvala's team hopes to be able to secure their first victory of the season and thus maintain their good streak in Africa. The boss-driver is optimistic for Katsuta and sees his protégé having a big weekend: “I hope we can go for victory for Taka. From what I see in Kenya now, I think patience is really important, especially with the harsh weather conditions. being the fastest is not always the right solution in Kenya. Being the smartest is the key, and I hope we can achieve that with Taka”.

A rally turned upside down by the weather?

Initially, the Kenya Rally is held in June. This year, it was brought forward on the calendar… during the rainy season. The sandy and dry roads could then turn into real mud baths. “It will be a different challenge, explained Jari-Matti Latvala. There is a risk of precipitation. If it rains it will be really slippery, and when you're not allowed to re-cut the tires it can be quite a challenge for the drivers. Granted, it might not be that bad, but I would say the risk is higher in complicated conditions. »

This new edition in Kenya also marks the return of snorkels for Rally1! This huge air tube which serves to protect the engine from water and dust. “Perhaps the most special thing will be the return of snorkels to Kenya if there is more water on the roads. All manufacturers can have these, so I think it will be pretty cool visually. ", continues Latvala, delighted by this news.
