It’s a Rally from Finland “new-look” which awaits the WRC, from August 1 to 4, 2024. Well, new, not quite. The route for the “Rally of 1000 Lakes” was unveiled this Tuesday in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. Compared to 2023, this has been renewed by more than 60%, while 12% of the route has not been used since 1997. The town of Jyväskylä will once again be at the heart of the rally by hosting the start ceremonies and arrival point, the service park as well as the Harju super-special to open the rally on Thursday.
Above all, the 2024 Rally Finland will be an opportunity to revisit a legendary special stage: Ouninpohja. The special, which has become legendary for its long jumps (including the famous jump in front of the yellow house), its high-speed passages and its hairpins, has not been used since 2016. In 2024, it will be covered in the opposite direction. twice, in a revised version of 33 kilometers (SS13 and SS16). This special will be contested on Saturday, once in the morning, once in the afternoon.
In total, the 305-kilometer timed course is divided into 20 special stages. Friday will be the longest day of the rally with more than 115 timed kilometers. “I truly believe this is an exceptional all-in-one course and one of the best ever made, explains Kai Tarkiainen, race director of Rally Finland. We have grouped the stages in such a way that spectators can have a very simple and friendly experience, while tasting the best of Rally Finland. Sustainability and community are among our priorities. That's why we also thought about it very carefully when planning our route for 2024. The result is an event that benefits not only local communities, but the entire global rally family. »
