VIDEO – When Wydaeghe, Neuville’s co-driver, takes the wheel of the Hyundai

« We're going to make a small change but don't tell anyone. » Always with his characteristic humor, Martijn Wydaeghe made a great discovery during the last edition of Rally Legend (October 13-15), the historic event contested every year in San Marino.

In a weekend where the clock doesn't really count, unlike the show offered by the former glories of rally, both international and national, the Belgian co-pilot has changed costume. Accustomed to reading notes for Thierry Neuville during the rounds of WRC, Martijn Wydaeghe this time put on the pilot's suit.

Le temps d’une journée, le Belge, bien guidé par les conseils de Dani Sordo, a pris le volant d’une ancienne Hyundai i20, la génération précédant l’apparition des Rally1 actuelles. Un moment qu’il appréhendait forcément mais qui ne lui a pas vraiment inquiété puisqu’il se disait « serein » grâce notamment aux conseils d’un pilote de la maison, Dani Sordo.

« I never thought it was this hard, recognized-he after his first experience behind the wheel of a WRC. But I enjoyed every meter. I started without special mode but then turned it on and went all out. There's so much power to manage, on all four wheels, that it oversteers quite easily. In a stage as narrow as this, it was easy to hit something. But in my opinion the car still looks like new (...) In the end, I prefer to continue in the right seat so don't worry Thierry, I will continue to be your co-driver. And if a new opportunity like this presents itself, just for fun, I will do it again without hesitation. » We know someone who got off on it.
