Volkswagen optimizes its Polo R WRC for 2014

Volkswagen Motorsport retains the main lines of the Polo R WRC for the new season of the World Rally Championship. However, the Wolfsburg team used ten “jokers” allowing it to make changes. Engineers focused on optimizing chassis components and diversifying tuning options, but the team's priority was on improving the car's stability. The popular manufacturer notably used one of its “jokers” to install new software for electronics.

“In motorsport, if you don’t move forward, you move backwards”, comments Jost Capito, director of Volkswagen Motorsport. “We cannot afford to waste a single second in technical development. Even though we reaped some laurels in 2013, we are not going to rest on them. The WRC manufacturers agreed not to homologate any new World Rally Cars in 2014. Despite this, we tried to take advantage of all the options that were still available to us. Many details of the 2014 Polo R WRC have been developed since our debut. Every member of the team is eager to see where we stand against our opponents with Citroën and Ford as well as our new rival Hyundai."
