VW unveils its Polo R WRC in Frankfurt

After three consecutive victories in the Dakar, Volkswagen abandons the rally-raid to concentrate on the World Rally Championship. What other place than Germany?s largest car show could serve as the stage for the presentation of this new product? “ In February we started the design of the car. Now we are able to present the first roadworthy car, the one that will primarily be used for our intensive development program for our commitment to WRC in 2013. », Confided Kris Nissen, Director of Volkswagen Motorsport, on this occasion.

In Wolfsburg, we seem to have been seduced by the new regulations put in place this season in the WRC, with the introduction of the 1,6 liter turbo engine. Regulatory, its power reaches around 300 horsepower for a torque of 350 Nm. A “downsizing” which entirely corresponds to the philosophy of Volkswagen and the VAG group as a whole, as Audi demonstrated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the R18 TDI winning the 2011 edition.

Remember that before its commitment in 2013 in the World Championship, Volkswagen will prepare for it thanks to a reduced program with Sköda next season.
