In the hot seat in recent weeks, particularly in the face of potential competition from Japan, Canada and Russia, le Rally of Sweden will finally be present on the calendar of the WRC for the next three seasons. The organizers confirmed the signing of a new contract with the promoter of the World Championship, a few hours after the arrival of the 2016 edition, won by the French Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen Polo R).
“A week ago, we were more dead than alive, and we could not see a future for the ordeal, comments Glenn Olsson, Managing Director of Rally Sweden. Now, once again, we have had a great event, and it is truly incredible to be able to confirm that we have reached an agreement for a three-year contract. We have a fabulous team, who have proven that we can get through complicated times. »
The Scandinavian round of the WRC has long been threatened this year by cancellation, due to the mild weather in the region. The organizers were forced to reduce the route, ultimately canceling nine specials out of the 21 initially planned.
