WRC – Malcolm Wilson: “Our drivers have the makings of world champions”

A sixth place in the general classification signed Mads Ostberg. That's all had to settle for the Qatar M-Sport WRT at the end of the rally of Monte Carlo. The other three cars entered and entrusted to Thierry Neuville, Evgeny Novikov and Juho Hänninen all went off the road. Despite this poor picture, Malcom Wilson, the main team of M-Sport, positive and look further. Three of its drivers scored at least one special victory, while Thierry Neuville won the shakedown, as a preamble to this first rally of the season. “I really think we have drivers in our ranks who have the makings of World Champions”, he estimates the official WRC website. “Of course it was a big disappointment to lose Evgeny so close to the finish (he had just taken third position from Dani Sordo, editor’s note), just like Juho and Mads who got into trouble. But, in my opinion, the fact that all three of them managed to set a scratch time is very good news. And I also think of Thierry, who was the fastest during the shakedown. »

“Morale pumped up,” Malcom Wilson is talking about a victory this season. “We could see that the potential is there. It's true that we haven't converted this potential into results, but they are very young. I am convinced that other rallies will take place in this way. It?s really very interesting to work with these pilots. After seeing Evgeny?s performance this weekend, I am sure we can win rallies. »
