Finally! It took seven rounds this season to see a driver win. Hyundai in 2025! This one is the work ofOtt Tänak, the clear winner of the Rally from the Acropolis, this Sunday, June 29, in front of the French Sébastien Ogier et Adrien fourmauxThe Estonian gradually established his dominance over the 17 special stages on the programme. He notably had a near-perfect Saturday, achieving five out of six possible stages. He then finished the day on Sunday, finishing with two out of four possible stages.
The weekend was almost perfect for the 2019 world champion, as in addition to the 25 points he earned for first place, he also picked up four additional points on Super Sunday. This allowed him to close the gap in the drivers' standings and steal third place from Kalle Rovanperä, who completely missed out in Greece with only an eighth-place finish in Rally1. It's also worth noting that Tänak won the Greek event for the first time.
Sébastien Ogier, for his part, has no reason to be ashamed of his performance. The driver Toyota, who still managed six scratchs and took the maximum 10 points on Super Sunday, was unable to do anything against an opponent in a state of grace. In any case, the eight-time world champion has secured a fifth podium in five rallies this season (three wins, a second place, and therefore a third). Despite his partial program, the Gapençais is now hot on the heels of his teammate Elfyn Evans in the championship.
At the Acropolis Rally, Fourmaux achieves his second podium in 2025
In Greece, Adrien Fourmaux also reached the podium. Initially second, the French driver damaged his car on Saturday morning, more precisely on SS10, after hitting a bank. While he was still able to see the end of this stage, he lost a lot of time at the finish and had to resign himself to seeing his compatriot pass him. The Hyundai driver was content to manage the rest of the time to secure a second podium in 2025 after Monte-Carlo.
The Acropolis Rally top five is completed by championship leader Elfyn Evans and reigning world champion Thierry Neuville. Thus, the Welshman took fourth place, as he had done in Sardinia in the previous round. After a very complicated Friday, during which he had to open the road as stipulated by the regulations, he had a solid end to the race. This is evidenced by the few important points taken during this Super Sunday.
The Belgian, the defending winner of this Greek rally, was once again unlucky throughout the weekend. While he didn't break his car this time, he suffered three punctures, one on Friday and two on Saturday, which logically caused him to fall back in the standings. This Sunday, he also experienced a loss of engine power. But he was still able to finish. In addition, he took advantage of the setbacks of several competitors to secure his fifth place.
A race to forget for Katsuta, Rovanperä and M-Sport
For the other three Toyota drivers, namely Sami Pajari, Takamoto Katsuta and Kalle Rovanperä, it's clearly a weekend to forget. The Finn notably made a mistake in one of the afternoon specials on Saturday (he narrowly avoided falling into a ravine). Before suffering a puncture on Sunday morning. This caused him to fall back in the overall standings (8th). In the Drivers' standings, he therefore had a very bad day, as Sébastien Ogier and Ott Tänak have now overtaken him.
Finally, on the side of the M-Sport, Irishman Josh McErlean put in a respectable performance, taking sixth place overall in a race that didn't spare his team, between punctures and mechanical problems. His young teammate Martins Sesks finished in seventh place.
In WRC2, Solberg passes Rossel in the championship by three points
In WRC2, Yohan Rossel took third place in the Acropolis Rally. The Frenchman, who led the way on Friday as the championship leader, had a difficult first day, notably marked by a broken suspension. But he made a strong comeback, ultimately finishing 15 seconds behind second place, held by Gus Greensmith. In this category, Oliver Solberg took the win (see rankings below).
In the WRC2 Drivers' standings, the Swede had the best weekend of the season, moving into the lead ahead of Rossel by just three points: 85 to the PH-Sport driver's 82. Gus Greensmith moved into third place with a total of 57 points.
