WRC – Robert Kubica trapped by Monte-Carlo

Robert Kubica will not see the arrival of Rally Monte Carlo. Eagerly awaited by the rally world, the new driver recruit M-Sport retired in the second stage following a trip off the road following an impact against a bridge. The Pole was then in the middle of a fight with Kris Meeke for third place. “There was a sudden change in grip.”, explains the former pilot of F1 who threw in the towel in the long SS9 of Vitrolles-Faye. “We knew we had to be careful because our grades indicated so, but I unfortunately underestimated the importance of this change. The grip was very good just before despite the mud which covered the road well. We attacked the corner, the front went away, we hit a bridge and that was the end of our rally. »

If disappointment is in order, the reigning WRC2 champion showed a nice burst of speed, already perceptible with his victory at the very start of the year at the Jännerrallye. The Pole was even the first leader of the event, taking first place in the first two special stages. “I can understand how Rober feels.”, adds Malcolm Wilson, Team Principal of the British structure. “Having spoken to him I can say he is extremely disappointed and feels like he has let the team down even though that is certainly not the case. We are absolutely delighted with his performance and the whole team supports him 100%. »
