WRC – Volkswagen dominates at Rally Sweden

Volkswagen Motorsport had an almost perfect weekend at Rally of Sweden with a double of Jari-Matti Latvala et Andreas Mikkelsen. The only false note comes from Sébastien Ogier who fell in the standings when he found himself stuck in a wall of snow while leading the race. But the results of the Wolfsburg manufacturer are more than positive since the Finn finds himself at the top of the Championship ahead of the world champion, while the leading German team is now 16 points ahead of the Citroën WRT.

The Polo R WRC were undoubtedly the fastest on the Swedish Rally, winning 18 of the 23 stages contested (Hara's second pass having been canceled). “We have the best drivers under contract behind the wheel of the Polo R WRC and they have benefited from the fastest and most reliable car in Sweden”, assures sports director Jost Capito. “We always knew it, but the results are there to confirm it. Jari-Matti Latvala clinched this victory after putting in a perfect performance, but he also had to fight for it. He had a fight with Andreas Mikkelsen who impressed us all. Congratulations to them both, but also to Sébastien Ogier who signed ten scratches and made a solid comeback. This time he did not have the luck that favors the bold. The team now finds itself with a luxury problem by having two drivers at the top of the Championship and the third in fourth place. I am impressed and proud of the work of the team whose efforts have once again paid off. »
