After Alain Prost, another Formula 1 legend joins the line-up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed : Mario Andretti. To mark the 75th anniversary of the World Championship, the British event will pay tribute to some of the greatest names in the sport. And to mark the occasion, the 1978 World Champion will be returning to one of the most iconic machines of his career: the Lotus 79.
Designed by the ingenious Colin Chapman, the car black and gold marked a major turning point in the history of F1The first car to fully exploit ground effect, it revolutionized the teams' approach to aerodynamics and still inspires modern engineers today. It is this technology that made its big comeback in the technical regulations in 2022.
We're very excited to announce that the great Mario Andretti is coming to #FOS 2025, where he'll be reunited with the iconic #Lotus 79 – the very car in which he claimed five grand prix victories and an #F1 drivers' world title in 1978.

At the wheel of the Lotus 79, Andretti dominated the 1978 season, winning five of the eleven Grands Prix contested with this chassis - the first rounds having been run with the Lotus 78. The return of this legendary duo to Goodwood promises to be a fitting tribute to a pivotal era in Formula 1.
