At the end of a contested session on a wet track, Ozz Negri, entered in the Ligier JS P2 of Michael Shank Racing, was the fastest in the first free practice session of the 24 Hours of Daytona, event of opening of the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

The Brazilian driver set the best time in 1'54"807, taking the lead from the GTLMs, who were at the forefront of the standings for a long time. Toni Vilander (Risi Competizione – Ferrari 488) place la première GTLM en deuxième position à 0″271 de Negri, et précède la Porsche 911 RSR du trio Bamber – Makowiecki – Christensen. The SMP Racing BR 01-Nissan of Mediani – Minassian – Aleshin – Ladygin and the No. 55 Mazda of Bomarito – Nunez – Pigot complete the top three in the Prototype category, but more than 1″5 behind the Ligier JS P2 of head. The VisitFlorida.comRacing Corvette of Dalziel – Goossens – Hunter-Reay ranks as the top DP at 12th. In PC, the No. 09 Oreca FLM26 from BAR1 Motorsports of Merzon – Eversley – Yount – Lewis – Falb was the fastest in 2'00″221.

The Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, entrusted to the Lindsey – McMurry – Bergmeister – Siedler crew, dominated the GTD.
