Petit's first three free practice sessions Le Mans (Georgia), final of theIMSA 2019 saw the No. 31 Cadillac DPi-VR – Action Express Racing of Derani – Nasr – Curran and the No. 05 Acura ARX-6 – Acura Team Penske of Montoya – Cameron – Pagenaud be the fastest at Road Atlanta.
The two cars competing for the title alternately dominated the three sessions, with Felipe Nasr opening the ball in EL1 in 1'09"093. Dane Cameron responded for the Acura Team Penske clan in EL2 by finishing the session with the reference time in 1'09″095, two thousandths from the previous mark.
During EL3, held at night, Action Express Racing regained the upper hand, still with the No. 31 Cadillac, with Pipo Derani setting the best time in 1'09″455.
Ford Chip Ganassi dominated the day in GTLM with the best cumulative time for the No. 66 Ford GT of Müller – Bourdais – Hand, the first mentioned to sign a lap in 1’16″552 in EL3. Note the best time in EL2 for the Ferrari 488 GTLM n°62 – Risi Competizione de Calado – Pier Guidi – Serra.
The No. 6 BMW M3 GT96 – Turner Motorsport of Auberlen-Foley-Machavern dominated the first and third sessions in GTD leaving only the second to the Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°33 from Riley Motorsports from the Fraga-Bleekemolen-Keating trio.
