By driving the first three hours of the Petit event Le Mans, the Dane Christina Nielsen (Ferrari 488 GT3 – Team Corsa) secured the title in the GTD category with his teammate Alessandro Balzan.
The duo had a lead of 32 points entering this final of Road Atlanta (Georgia), and a minimum racing time of three hours out of the ten on the program for this final round of the championship. IMSA was necessary to secure the crown.
Nielsen thus becomes the first woman to win a major North American professional championship. Scuderia Corsa also pockets a second major title after its victory in GTE Am at the last 24 Hours of Le Mans.
