Lucas Auer will not compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Committed to the Mercedes-AMG n°57 from Winward Racing, the Austrian lost control of his car during Free Practice 1 of the Florida classic and violently hit the wall after putting the wheels in the grass.
Taken to hospital to be examined, Gerhard Berger's nephew was suffering from back pain, his team informed us at the end of the day. Mercedes gave news of the 28-year-old driver in the evening and he suffers from a lumbar fracture. He will therefore not be able to participate in the event on Saturday.
The star brand has confirmed that “Luggi” will be replaced by another driver, which will be announced soon. The Winward Racing No. 57 must start from pole position in the GTD category with Philip Ellis, Indy Dontje and Russell Ward.
@WinwardRacing will compete in this weekend's # Rolex24 and a replacement tub is presently on its way to @Daytona. A replacement driver will be announced soon.
